Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with over than 2000 years of history to be found in every corner of the city. 

 

Lisbon offers a cultural and historical richness and a perfect ambience to receive the SMYE participants. It is a youthful and dynamic city well known for its beautiful architecture, great weather, delicious gastronomy and friendly people. Lisbon was elected the second best European destination in 2013 by the European Consumers Choice, and it is the best European destination for city breaks according to World Travel Awards.

There is a lot to do in Lisbon young economists. You can just walk around the town and see the sumptuous buildings and contemplate Lisbon, and the Tagus River, in all its beauty through the many belvederes. Rest near the river. Visit the museums, such as Berardo Museum, Museu Nacional do Azulejo or Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Palaces and Monasteries and enjoy the nature in one of the many gardens in the city. Visit the Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery and stop by in the one and only traditional shop to taste Pastéis de Belém.

 

How to get to Lisbon

 

Airplane

The easiest way to come to Lisbon is by airplane. The Lisbon Portela Airport connects Lisbon to more than 100 destinations. The airport is 7km away from the city centre. After arriving you can take the metro (every day from 6.30am until 1.00am), which will only take approximately 30 minutes to the venue and it will cost 1.90€. You can also take the airport shuttle that connects the airport to the city centre (every day from 7.00am until 23.20pm), which will cost 3.50€. Alternatively you can also take a taxi which will cost approximately 10€ or rent a car at the airport (all price are just reference prices. Train
You can travel overnight by train. There are trains connecting Madrid (Lusitânia Comboio Hotel), Vigo (Celta train) and Irun (Sud Expresso) to Lisbon.
